Biography

Ingrit Malleus is a young choral conductor active on the international music scene, currently based in Helsinki. She is recognized for her stylistic versatility and strong engagement with both historically informed performance and contemporary choral repertoire.

She studied choral conducting at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under Professors Toomas Kapten and Tõnu Kaljuste, and continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin with Professors Jörg-Peter Weigle and Justin Doyle. In June 2023, she completed her Master’s degree at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where she studied with Professor Nils Schweckendiek. Alongside her conducting studies, she pursued minor studies in early music singing under Tuuli Lindberg.

Ingrit has further developed her artistic profile through conducting masterclasses with renowned musicians such as Ragnar Rasmussen, László Nemes, Zoltán Pad, Sir Roger Norrington, Simon Halsey, Kaspars Putniņš, Kristjan Järvi, and Paavo Järvi. She has also participated in ensemble singing courses with the Theatre of Voices and an early music singing masterclass with Jean-Sébastien Beauvais.

She regularly collaborates as a singer and project musician with leading European ensembles, including the Helsinki Chamber Choir, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Key Ensemble, and Europa Chorakademie, combining her experience as both conductor and ensemble singer into a refined and musician-centered artistic approach.

Ingrit has distinguished herself at several international conducting competitions. In December 2019, she won third prize at the international choral conducting competition Towards Polyphony in Poland. In October 2019, she was one of four finalists at the Estonian Young Choral Conductors’ Competition, where she also received a special prize from the Estonian National Male Choir (RAM). Returning to the same competition in 2024, she was awarded first prize as well as the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir’s special prize. In autumn 2024, she was a finalist at the Fosco Corti International Choral Conducting Competition in Italy, where she received the special prize of the European Choral Association. In autumn 2025, she won third prize at the Krikor Chetinyan International Choral Conducting Competition in Bulgaria, and in December 2025 she was awarded first prize at the Romano Gandolfi International Choral Conducting Competition in Italy.
